There is nothing easy or glamorous about being an Executor. More often than not, executors can become a target for unhappy heirs. Not only does an executor have a fiduciary responsibility to the estate, but part of their work is to communicate as effectively as possible. Many executors do not know how to approach the scope of work ahead, what will take place, or how to inform everyone of what they are doing.
The Executor’s Letter to Heirs and Beneficiaries to Divide Personal Property is completely customizable and can be edited any way you choose. It does include a friendly message of the estate work ahead, validates this is a difficult time for everyone, how they will proceed with having items valued first, asking immediate siblings to fill out the Wish List and that desired items will be appraised and totaled in order to promote equitable distribution if that is what the will stipulates.
While not everyone will agree with this method because some heirs will want more than others, it is considered a fair way to proceed. This sample letter ends with kind words of encouragement.
The Wish List Template for Heirs to Divide Personal Property offers the heirs or beneficiaries a way to document what they would like to have. This is not a guarantee they will receive the item, but a wish list letting the executor know what they are interested in. It is important for the executor to put a timeline on receiving the Wish Lists back from the heirs of beneficiaries.
The Master Wish List Spreadsheet for Executors can be used once the executor has received all of the heir Wish Lists and can combine them into one final Wish List at-a-glance.
The 90-Day Home Inventory Record is an inventory of personal property requested for the decedent’s estate. It is an important filing in the estate administration and probate process.
The Inventory isn’t due until ninety (90) days after the Executor or Administrator qualifies/issued Letters.  The values you state need to be the values as of the decedent’s date of death, not the date of filing of the Inventory.
The Executor’s Template Package was put together to save the executor time and stress.
